Read Write Inc. Fresh Start (Age 9+)

Read Write Inc. Fresh Start is a synthetic phonics intervention programme for pupils in years 5, 6 and 7 working below NC Level 3. Ideal for paired / group work or working one to one with a pupil.

Using all the strategies that are so successful in Read Write Inc. Phonics, children are taught the 44 sounds systematically in lively, fast paced phonics lessons and quickly start to sound blend them to read words.

Fresh Start Modules and anthologies provide specially written age-appropriate stories and non-fiction texts which the children have the phonic knowledge to read, building their confidence from the start. Writing is developed alongside reading.

Spelling and Grammar

The English language is rich and complex and takes a long time to learn.

Once children have learnt the 44 sounds of English, one of the keys to good spelling is to remember how to spell these sounds in different words.

The process of learning to spell is cumulative and most children need explicit systematic teaching that is continually practised and reinforced, until spelling knowledge is committed to long-term memory.

Help your child learn essential grammar rules, along with the tips and tricks that make spelling easier. The comprehensive Jolly Grammar programme can be found in the Jolly Phonics | Grammar section.
