Letterland
Letterland is a magical world where letters come to life and phonics becomes fun. The friendly letter characters teach all 44 letter sounds of the English language.
Letterland character names make it easy to talk about letters and they always begin with and repeat the correct sound - a vital first step in learning to read with Synthetic Phonics.
We have selected the Letterland items that are useful for parents to use with their children at home to help them learn the shapes and sounds of letters and how these are used to build simple words.
Read Write Inc. Phonics
Read Write Inc. (formerly known as Ruth Miskin Literacy or RML) is a lively phonic programme that gets children reading and writing fast. The interesting storybooks are carefully graded so that children feel safe and confident as they learn to read and write. Choose from a range of books designed for use in the classroom and at home.
The excellent Read Write Inc. resources can also be used very effectively alongside other reading schemes.

In this section, we offer information and resources that are specifically related to the Letters and Sounds programme now being followed in many schools.
Decodable Reading Books
"..don't make a child read a book they can't read. While we're teaching them this nightmare alphabetic code, we should give them simple books to read, but the richest books to hear. Phonics is just the quickest route to reading real books" (Ruth Miskin, April 2008).
Excellent decodable reading books can be found as part of the Jolly Phonics and Read Write Inc. reading schemes.
In this section, we offer additional decodable reading books that can be used alongside any good phonic reading scheme, including books for children who are beginning to blend sounds to read simple words, through to fiction and non-fiction books for children who are gaining confidence in reading.

Phonics International
Debbie Hepplewhite's International Online Synthetic Phonics programme - a comprehensive programme to teach reading, writing and spelling in 12 progressive units.
Whichever phonics reading scheme you are using or considering, this programme offers a wealth of very useful resources, many of which can be downloaded FREE. These resources can be used as a complete programme or to complement other synthetic phonics programmes.
