Read Write Inc. Phonics Programme

Read Write Inc. Phonics (also known as Ruth Miskin Literacy or RML) is a comprehensive synthetic phonics programme that teaches reading, writing and spelling. Suitable for children aged 4 - 7, but can also be used with 8 - 9 year olds for catch-up intervention.

Resources are designed for use in the classroom and at home, and some are specifically designed for one-to-one tutoring with struggling children. They include a range of effective teaching materials, reading books for children to apply their phonic knowledge and Get Writing! books for children to embed their phonic knowledge, spelling, punctuation and compose texts.

These excellent Read Write Inc. resources can also be used very effectively alongside other reading schemes.

The Read Write Inc. Phonics Home resources are specifically designed for parents to use at home to support their child's learning at school in a fun and structured way.

A free information leaflet is also available that explains what the Speed Sounds are, the order in which they are taught in the Read Write Inc. programme and which sounds a child needs to know before reading each level of Storybooks.

Read Write Inc. Storybooks

The Read Write Inc. Phonics Storybooks provide structured practice in decoding words and reading through phonics. Each set of books is carefully graded so that children can read them with confidence, as soon as they have learned the sounds linked to the set. There are eight sets of books (including the Red Ditty Books), with 10-13 books in each set.

Available in colour or black & white versions, and in individual packs or school packs of 10.

Read Write Inc. Non-fiction Books

These lovely books cover a wide range of topics and are accompanied by exciting photographs and illustrations. The books provide extra practice of the graphemes children find the hardest to read and can be used for variety, as alternatives to the Storybooks.

Available in individual or school packs of 10.

Read Write Inc. Get Writing!

These Get Writing! Books contain a wide range of writing activities linked to the Read Write Inc. Storybooks and to selected Non-fiction books for each level, making the strong link between reading and writing.

Lesson plans for the writing activities are provided in the Get Writing! Handbook and CD-ROM.
