This section includes the resources needed to help teach letter sounds and word blending.

Decodable Storybooks (b&w) and Get Writing! Books
These great value black and white books have the same content as the colour Storybooks. This section also includes the Ditty Books that offer children early practice in reading and writing short, decodable passages.

The Get Writing! Books contain a range of writing activities which are linked to each of the Storybooks to make the strong link between reading and writing.

Decodable Storybooks (colour)
The Read Write Inc. Phonics Storybooks provide structured practice in decoding words and reading through phonics. Each set of books is carefully graded so that children can read them with confidence, as soon as they have learned the sounds linked to the set. There are seven sets of books, with 10-13 books in each set.

These excellent decodable reading books can be used very effectively alongside other reading schemes. The Ditty Books (that prepare children for these Storybooks) and the Get Writing! books linked to them can be found in the b&w Storybook section.

Decodable Non-fiction (colour)
20 brand new Read Write Inc. Non-fiction books with five books at each of the Orange, Yellow, Blue and Grey levels.

These lovely books cover a wide range of topics and are accompanied by exciting photographs and illustrations. The books provide extra practice of the graphemes children find the hardest to read and can be used for variety, as alternatives to the Storybooks.

Read Write Inc. Home Storybooks
Ruth Miskin has now created a series of Read Write Inc. Phonics Storybooks especially for parents to use at home. This series helps parents support their child's reading development by reinforcing what he or she is learning at school in a fun and structured way. It is accompanied by a Parent's Handbook and Speed Sound Flashcards to use at home.
